Our Mission
Care & Carriage exists to support people who cannot manage independently, but who do not require emergency services or regulated personal or clinical care.
We provide practical, non-clinical support to help individuals remain active, safe, and connected within their community; whether that support takes place at home or includes assisted travel.
Our focus is not speed, volume, or convenience, but appropriateness, safety, and dignity.

Why Care & Carriage Started
Care & Carriage was established after first-hand experience of how easily people can fall between services.
Many individuals do not meet the threshold for ambulance services or regulated care, yet cannot safely travel alone or manage everyday tasks without support. In these situations, people are often left relying on family, informal help, or unsuitable alternatives.
Care & Carriage was created to meet that gap, carefully and proportionately, while remaining clear about what we do and do not provide.
What We Provide
Care & Carriage delivers support-led assistance, which may include:
- Home-based support linked to wellbeing, independence, or preparation
- Supervised accompaniment in the community
- Assisted travel where it forms part of a wider, assessed support need
All support is:
- Non-clinical
- Non-intimate
- Proportionate to the individual’s needs
Travel is never provided as a standalone service and is only delivered where it is incidental to wider support.
How Access Works
Care & Carriage is not an open-access service.
- All enquiries are subject to eligibility and suitability checks
- Many enquiries are declined
- Decisions are never made during a phone call
- Final acceptance decisions are always human-led
This approach ensures the service remains appropriate for both the individual and the wider community.
Boundaries and Ongoing Suitability
Suitability is conditional, not permanent.
- Staff are trained to monitor for material changes in need
- Any change triggers a review
- Where needs increase beyond our scope, support is paused or withdrawn
- Individuals are signposted to more appropriate services
This boundary-led approach is intentional and central to how we operate.
Our Operating Framework
Care & Carriage is designed to operate outside taxi, private hire, ambulance, and regulated personal care frameworks by design.
- We do not offer taxi or private hire services
- We do not accept on-demand or point-to-point bookings
- We do not provide regulated personal or clinical care
- We do not replace statutory or emergency services
Where regulation would apply, the service does not operate.
While Care & Carriage operates outside formal healthcare regulation, we are committed to the same principles of safety, quality, accountability, and professionalism expected of regulated services.
About Our Vehicles
Care & Carriage uses ambulance-grade vehicles because of the vulnerability and risk profile of the people we support.
Vehicles are configured, marked, and insured appropriately to ensure:
- Safe access
- Secure transport
- Supervision and readiness to respond if a person becomes unwell
The use of ambulance-grade vehicles reflects risk management and insurance necessity, not the provision of regulated medical services.
Transparency and Accountability
Care & Carriage welcomes proportionate scrutiny.
Our service model, eligibility criteria, and boundaries are intentionally clear, and we engage directly with relevant bodies where appropriate.
