What is Care & Carriage and what do you do?
We provide care-led support and assistance for everyday activities, at home or in the community, where additional supervision or support is needed. Transport is provided as part of the support, not as a standalone service.
Our trained Community Support Companions help you manage activities safely and confidently – whether that’s an appointment, shopping, a social outing, or wellbeing trip.
How do I know if this service is right for me?
Our support is suitable for people who:
- Need supervision or practical help to participate in activities safely
- Would benefit from a consistent supportive presence
- Find independent travel or outings difficult or unsafe
If you’re unsure, our Eligibility Check helps you reflect on that, and we’ll always discuss your situation before any service is arranged.
What support do you provide, and what do you not provide?
We offer support that focuses on:
- Reassurance, supervision, companionship
- Assistance with planning and carrying out activities
- Confidence in unfamiliar or stressful situations
We do not provide regulated personal care, such as bathing, toileting, feeding, or administering medications.
Are you registered carers?
No. Our team are trained Community Support Companions, not registered carers. Because of that, we do not undertake personal or clinical care that falls under Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated activities.
This lets us focus on support and participation, rather than medical or personal care tasks.
Are you a taxi or private hire service?
No. Care and Carriage is not a taxi or private hire service.
We provide care-led community support, where assistance, supervision, or reassurance is needed to help someone safely and confidently manage everyday activities.
Transport may be provided as part of that support, but we do not offer on-demand transport, mileage-based journeys, or taxi-style bookings. All services are subject to eligibility checks and assessment to ensure they are appropriate.
How do you decide if someone is eligible?
Before we engage in support, we ask you to complete a short Eligibility Check. This helps us and you understand whether your needs align with the support we provide. It is not a booking, and it does not guarantee acceptance — it just starts the right conversation.
We follow this with a care and transport assessment before any support scheduling.
How much does Care & Community Support cost?
Our services are charged on a time basis and are priced according to the level of support required, rather than distance travelled or specific tasks.
We use a tiered pricing approach to ensure our services are fair and proportionate to each person’s needs. Typical starting prices are:
Home Based Community Support – from £26 per hour
Support provided at home, without travel, focused on companionship, reassurance, and help managing everyday activities.
Local Community Support – from £34 per hour
Support for short outings such as shopping, local errands, or nearby appointments, where light travel is required as part of the service.
Enhanced or Complex Support – from £40 per hour
Support for longer or more complex activities, including hospital appointments, unfamiliar environments, or situations requiring greater supervision or coordination.
Bespoke or Extended Support – priced individually
Tailored arrangements for longer days, day trips, or extended periods of support, often offered as a half-day or full-day rate.
A minimum booking period applies.
The appropriate support level is confirmed following assessment, and we’ll always explain how pricing applies to your situation before any service is provided.
Why does care-led community support cost more than standard transport or basic home care?
Our service is priced based on the level of support, responsibility, and supervision required, rather than specific tasks or distance travelled.
Unlike standard transport or short home care visits, our Community Support Companions provide continuous, one-to-one support, often in public or unfamiliar environments, where risks and needs can change quickly.
Pricing reflects the time involved, the responsibility held, and the resources required — including trained staff, safeguarding, insurance, and, where needed, accessible transport.
We aim to be fair and transparent, and we’ll always explain how pricing applies to your situation following assessment.
Can I bring a carer or companion with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring another person with you if that helps you feel safe and supported. There is no additional charge for this, provided vehicle capacity allows.
Can I travel in my wheelchair?
Yes, our vehicle is fully accessible with an electric ramp and secure wheelchair restraints, so you can travel safely and comfortably in your wheelchair. There is no additional cost.
Our current fleet has 2 passenger seats plus a wheelchair.

Can I bring my guide dog or support animal?
Yes, guide dogs and support animals are welcome.
Please let us know in advance so we can prepare the vehicle appropriately. There is no additional charge.
Is this service suitable for people with autism or other neurodiversity?
Yes. Many people with autism or other neurological conditions benefit from structured support and supervision.
For safety, we may sometimes ask that a registered carer or familiar companion travel with the person so our Companion can focus on providing the right level of support.
What area do you cover?
We currently provide support across:
- Benfleet
- Canvey Island
- Hadleigh
- Thundersley
- Leigh-on-Sea
- Rayleigh
- Hockley
- Hullbridge
We may consider support outside these areas where the activity or journey starts or ends within this core zone.
